Blind Ambition
BBC2, 10pm
This documentary follows television director Jamie O’Leary as he prepares before eye surgery for the possibility of going blind – and with that description you might expect a grim viewing experience.
Far from it: instead, O’Leary – who already suffers from extremely poor eyesight – hits the road on a journey of discovery with blind comedian Jamie MacDonald (far right with O’Leary) by his side, and the results prove to be a surprisingly entertaining and humorous affair.
On their travels the duo encounter blind artists with successful careers, including a singer, a rapper and a photographer. O’Leary defiantly makes light of his situation, describing his journey with MacDonald as ‘the blind leading the nearly blind’. You can’t help but be impressed by the quiet courage with which he is ready to meet whatever lies in the future. ★★★★★
