I Am Victoria
Channel 4, 9pm
The first series of this anthology of female-led, one-off dramas proved to be a fine showcase for the brilliance of lead actresses. Now it returns for a new threepart run, and writer-director Dominic Savage again collaborates successfully with stellar names including Letitia Wright and Lesley Manville, both of whose stories can be seen on All4 after the first episode.
First up, Suranne Jones stars as Victoria, a working wife and mother who, with her husband Chris (Ashley Walters, right with Jones) and their two daughters, appears to have it all: a happy family, a beautiful home and a fulfilling career. So why is she on the point of unravelling and unable even to deal with a simple dinner party with friends?
Jones is as good as she's ever been, in a hard-hitting and compelling depiction of mental illness that encompasses both moments of despair and hope. ★★★★★
