Helen not to blame for sisters’ property avarice

-

I was amazed to read your article last week about the four sisters in Devon who, having accepted an offer from a local fisherman to buy their family home, were quite happy to go back on the deal when they were offered £200,000 more by actress Helen Baxendale (left).

When she failed to go through with the purchase, the owners were forced to accept a ‘significantly lower’ offer.

The sisters said they could not believe that anyone could behave so badly.

As far as I am concerned, it is the sisters who behaved badly. Having accepted an offer, it was totally wrong of them to go back on the deal.

What then happened is a lesson to us all.

Helen Baxendale didn’t sign anything so she was perfectly within her rights to change her mind without justifying it to the sellers.

Greed clearly got the better of the sisters, but who in their right mind would have refused an offer of an extra £200,000?

Buying and selling property in England is ridiculous. No deposits required, fragile chain systems, lengthy completions – the only winners are the lawyers.
