The Hundred really IS cricket!

As a cricket lover, like so many others who enjoy the game, my initial thought when The Hundred series was introduced was ‘It’s just not cricket’. I considered it a blight on the beautiful game.

I am used to watching threeday county and five-day Test matches and I thoroughly enjoy them – although I admit that occasionally I am disappointed when such marathon matches end in a draw.

Recently I have watched a few matches in The Hundred to find out if my initial impression was correct.

How wrong I was! These matches are exciting to watch – games last approximately twoand-a-half hours and always end up with a result.

I have also been impressed at the large number of young people and children who attend these matches and seem to really enjoy themselves.

So often in life we say that we must get the youth involved in sport and other activities.

I feel that The Hundred has definitely roused the interest of our younger citizens. I am now the first to admit: ‘It definitely IS cricket!’
