Race to the isles

AN off-road racing series for electric vehicles could soon be heading to Scotland.

The Extreme E Series stages races in fragile environments such as the Arctic tundra and endangered rainforests to draw attention to climate change.

Planned events in South America were cancelled and now talks have been held about bringing races to the beaches of the Outer Hebrides next year.

A spokesman for Western Isles Council said organisers visited the islands in May.

He said: ‘They looked at various locations and seemed impressed and discussions are continuing.’
