Inspired by characters created by Terry Pratchett – although Discworld fans should be warned that it’s by no means a faithful adaptation – this new series mixes fantasy and police drama as it follows a mismatched group trying to protect their city. In the first episode of the opening double bill, City Watch Captain Sam Vimes (Richard Dormer, above) spots a familiar, and malevolent, face. ★★★★★
