Highway Code change risks lives
Have the Transport Secretary, Grant Shapps, and the rest of the Government lost their minds?
To change the Highway Code, as has been proposed, so that pedestrians and cyclists have right of way over motorists is ridiculous.
I am a retired police inspector with plenty of experience of traffic accidents. Do MPs not know that a vehicle travelling within the speed limit cannot stop if somebody stands by a pedestrian crossing and suddenly steps out on to it?
The present law already allows pedestrians right of way if they put one foot on the crossing.
And good luck to those who will be trying to police cycle ways. Until bicycles are registered and have an identification number showing, many of these cyclists will still ride dangerously. As for making things more ‘green’, vehicles in traffic jams pour out noxious fumes, which do not help air quality.
MPs need to get a grip, for goodness sake, and put a stop to these crazy changes if they do not want more deaths, injuries and pollution.
