Chelsea closing in on Lukaku return as Inter chase Dzeko

-

CHELSEA are finalising a £98million deal to bring Romelu Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge.

Talks with Inter Milan reached a conclusion yesterday after days of negotiations over the fee and structure of the transfer.

Lukaku (right) agreed to the move earlier this week after it became clear Inter were willing to sell him to alleviate financial concerns. He has agreed terms on a five-year contract worth around £10m-a-year after tax.

Inter want to secure Lukaku’s replacement before confirming the transfer and are understood to be targeting Roma’s Edin Dzeko.

The Bosnian, who has one year left on his contract, can leave on a free if a new club offers him a two-year deal.

Inter’s move for the 35-year-old should therefore be straightforward, but the minor delay could prevent Lukaku from being signed in time to take part in the European Super Cup on Wednesday.

Chelsea’s move for the 28-year-old accelerated after their attempts to prise Erling

Haaland from Borussia Dortmund were met with continued rebuttals.

Dortmund, having sold Jadon Sancho, were only prepared to accept a ‘crazy offer’ for the Norwegian and Chelsea were not prepared to enter into a drawn-out saga.
