City under rat attack... so council better act quickly
GLASGOW binmen are considering strike action after three separate rat attacks on workers in recent weeks.
The latest incident saw a cleansing worker taken to hospital for a tetanus jab after a giant rodent – estimated at a foot-and-ahalf long – jumped out of a bin and onto his body, scratching his arm hard enough to draw blood.
The council says rat attacks are rare but GMB boss Chris Mitchell says his members are ready to strike over the problem, adding: ‘Rat urine can kill you and Glasgow has become their biggest playground.’
It comes as SNP council chiefs are encouraging local residents to help manage clean-ups in the city, rather than rely on the council to do regular cleansing work.
If infestations are getting worse, it’s time for more council resources to clean up the city, not shift the responsibility onto taxpayers.
