The foodie documentary series narrated by Dawn French continues, and this week crisps are on the menu. The great British addiction has been an arena of cut-throat competition for decades between three rival companies: Smith’s, Golden Wonder and Walkers.

With each endeavouring to stay ahead of the others as they battle for a greater share of the market, the result has been not only a proliferation of flavours, but also once unthinkable innovation, as the humble crisp has been joined by such novelties as the cheesy puff and the import of the exotic tortilla.

This is an informative insight into the way some of the smartest people in the British food industry have done everything in their power to tempt you with their wares. Do keep a bowl of your favourite brand/flavour close by while watching. ★★★★★
