YOUR AMAZING BODY
THERE is one body part unique to humans: the chin. Even chimpanzees and gorillas, from which we derived, have jaws that slope back from their front teeth, rather than chins, and their evolutionary benefit remains a mystery.
Most scientists have concluded that they are an evolutionary by-product of the human face shrinking.
Nathan Holton, who studies facial evolution at the University of Iowa, said: ‘Understanding why our faces became smaller is important to explaining why we have chins.’
