McGregor back on agenda for Farooq

BOXING: Glasgow boxer Kash Farooq claimed the WBC International bantamweight title last night to move closer to a potential rematch with Lee McGregor.

The Scot (pictured) dominated Luis Gerardo Castillo over 10 rounds and got the nod from all three judges, with two scoring it a perfect 100-90 and the other giving one round to the Mexican.

The victory improves Farooq’s record to 16-1 and will increase the clamour for another contest with McGregor, the British, Commonwealth and European champion. Farooq is now the mandatory challenger for that British belt and a rematch in front of a Scottish audience would be one of the hottest tickets in town. This was the last fight in Farooq’s deal with Matchroom but boss Eddie Hearn will no doubt be eager to offer an extension.
