Trouser press inventor dies

-

TRIBUTES were paid this weekend to Peter Corby, inventor of the Corby trouser press, after his death at the age of 97.

He patented the electric press – advertised as a ‘man’s best friend – in the 1960s and it became a staple of hotels around the world. After selling the business in 1977, the keen sailor retired to the Isle of Wight.

Mr Corby flew a Halifax bomber as part of 78 Squadron in the final weeks of the Second World War. He is survived by his second wife Ines Mandow, their son and two sons from his first marriage.
