Why is there such a buzz about..?

The Parisian Agency (Netflix)

PROPERTY SHOW

Netflix loves shows set in the French capital, and so do its viewers. Call My Agent!, Lupin and Emily In Paris are among its big hits.

But the network’s latest, The Parisian Agency, isn’t a drama or a comedy, it’s a reality series about a family of estate agents. Olivier Kretz, his wife Sandrine and three of their four sons (right) have a successful business selling very expensive properties.

In the first episode we go with them to an incredible, thousand-year-old chateau 30 miles outside Paris. It’s valued at 15million euros and is the sort of place where the dining room chairs were designed by the sculptor Giacometti and are worth almost more than the castle. They are not for sale, the owner emphasises.

There’s also a fabulous modern home that can be reached by boat along the Seine and has a concealed swimming pool and a secret room behind a bookcase.

In yet another amazing house, the owner has a gleaming vintage Norton motorcycle on display in one of the rooms. A few little design tips we could all learn from there.

So this is high-class property porn – Selling Sunset, last year’s hit about LA real estate, but with more élan, more je ne sais quoi.

The show also tries to invest us in various family dramas – the boys are constantly trying to get their young-atheart, Nike-wearing grandmother to use dating sites to find a boyfriend, for instance – but it’s at its best when simply showcasing magnificent homes that we’d all love to live in.
