Gossip Girl

Just as Beverly Hills 90210 and Friends grabbed earlier generations, so Gossip Girl caught the mood for youthful viewers from 2007 to 2012. Though entertaining, the running storyline of an anonymous person posting online, interfering in the private lives of a group of elite Manhattan school pupils, has also proved to be an indicator of where social media was going.

Now, as the show is rebooted, we’re introduced to the students of Constance St Jude’s, and in particular two half-sisters poised to be the central characters: fashion influencer Julien (Jordan Alexander, right) and Zoya, a newcomer from out of town.

The ‘Gossip Girl’ online account is brought back to life, but with the story taking a bewildering twist that is far from the more light-hearted tone of the original, this is a shaky start that will take some getting over to earn fans’ loyalty.
