Standing at just 6in tall, these goblet-shaped, deep blue flowers appear during October and November.

A fairly rare native to Britain, autumn squill carries bright blue flowers on wiry 5in stems from late August into October.

Found in Turkey and central Asia, autumn daffodil, pictured below, dazzles during September and October with its yellow flowers held on 6in-tall stems.
