‘Disgusting’ Saints are now in the driving seat

-

IT is difficult to come up with many scenarios in which being branded ‘disgusting’ could be taken as the sign of a job well done.

Squeezing a Scotch pie, crisps and tomato sauce into a morning roll and letting the grease dribble all the way down your front? Dropping some NWA records into the mix at the Rotary Club Christmas party?

Whatever fits the bill, the comments of coach Dominik Thalhammer after LASK Linz’s 1-1 draw with St Johnstone must be taken as a compliment. When he called Saints ‘disgusting to play against’, it is easy to see what he meant.

Put simply, they put LASK under the cosh from the off and were better throughout. Were it not for one daft mistake, they would have won deservedly.

Europe beyond Christmas remains within Saints’ grasp, though. A similarly disgusting display on Thursday and justice should be done for guys punching above their weight at a level not seen since Rod Stewart started chatting up supermodels.
