Sir Michael Caine has written six books – and he’s finally revealed the secret of how he can write so much: he does it when he’s just a little bit tipsy!

The acting legend turned novelist has revealed that he staves off the boredom of writing for hours on end by getting quietly squiffy in the study.

‘You get bored. I’m just sitting there on my own,’ says Sir Michael, 88. ‘You want some help, some stimulus – booze helps.’
