SARAH REALLY IS A WONDER WOMAN

-

THE surprising delight of the Tokyo Olympics was the time difference – it meant waking up every day to good news of a Team GB medal or athlete breaking a record or putting in a personal best.

So it’s great to have that feeling back with the Paralympics. Team GB are knocking it out of the park in Tokyo – second in the medal table behind China, and racking up the golds.

The first UK triumph was from Dame Sarah Storey in the cycling – her 15th gold medal in all. Her time of 3 minutes and 27 seconds was a world record for the C5 category – and so quick that it would have beaten the regular Olympic gold medallist the last time the distance was competed, at Beijing in 2008.

Storey started off as a medal-winning swimmer before transitioning to a cyclist, has had two children and is now 43 years old. That she is putting in times to beat the elite Olympic field of younger women really does mark her out as superhuman.
