RUGBY: Ayrshire Bulls were in rampant mood yesterday in the FOSROC Super 6 as they thumped Heriot’s 41-7 at Millbrae yesterday. The Bulls ran in six tries to the visitors’ one. Skipper Blair Macpheron got a hat-trick of tries for the hosts as they picked up their second win of the season.

ATHLETICS: Elaine Thompson-Herah has continued her blistering form in the 100-metre women’s sprinting division after posting the quickest time for a Diamond League meeting in Paris yesterday.

The Jamaican won her semi-final heat in a time of 10.72seconds. The Olympic gold medallist from Tokyo has posted a series of fast times this season and is inching closer to breaking the world record of 10.49secs set by American Florence Griffith-Joyner back in 1988. In the same semi-final, Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith finished third as she returns to form after struggling with niggling injuries in Tokyo a few weeks ago.

Thompson-Herah, who ran 10.54secs last week in Oregon enjoys a great rivalry with Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who also hails from Jamaica.

GOLF: American Sean Crocker and Italy’s Renato Paratore lead a crowded Omega European Masters leaderboard in Switzerland going into today’s final round. Crocker and Paratore both sit on 10 under par but there are 14 players within three of the lead. Patrick Cantlay shares the BMW Championship lead in Baltimore with Bryson DeChambeau on 21 under.

TENNIS: World No 6 Elina Svitolina beat Alize Cornet 7-5 6-4 to win the Chicago Open last night.

Anett Kontaveit claimed her second WTA Tour title after winning the Cleveland Tennis In The Land championship. The Estonian defeated Romania’s Irina-Camelia Begu 7-6 (5), 6-4.
