Cataract surgery £4,000 an eye

Involves inserting artificial lens. Those with very high glasses prescripti­ons will be charged a lot more. Cheaper monofocal implants correct only one focal point, so patients will still need glasses for certain activities. Multifocal implants give visual clarity at all distances.

Cancer diagnosis £350 an hour

Cancer Research UK says consultati­ons will cost upwards of £100 an hour. However, Harley Street patients can expect to pay more than £350. Private chemothera­py also comes with a price tag of £30,000.

Hip replacemen­t £12,500

Costs £10,000 per hip. Actual cost is around £10,500 but higher price of £12,500 includes three to five days in hospital, examinatio­ns and even crutches. Does not include emergency blood transfusio­n if needed.

Knee replacemen­t £12,500

Officially called arthroplas­ty. Quote includes about three to four days’ recovery time in hospital but it can cost as much as £15,400. Price does not cover post-op physiother­apy programme.
