‘Despicable’ love cheat Hancock still hasn’t said sorry to his wife
DISGRACED Matt Hancock was yesterday branded ‘despicable’ for failing to apologise to his betrayed wife and caring only for his career and his mistress.
A source close to the family revealed that the former Health Secretary’s wife, Martha, who is thought to be suffering from long Covid after contracting the virus from her husband, had been ‘crushed’ by his infidelity. The insider also claimed the 42-year-old MP had not apologised to his wife for cheating, adding: ‘Matt is only interested in his career and his mistress. ‘He is a despicable individual.’
Mrs Hancock, 44, has maintained a dignified silence since photographs emerged in June of her husband breaking his own coronavirus rules by kissing aide Gina Coladangelo, 44, in his Whitehall office, triggering his resignation.
But her distress and ongoing upset have driven the family to tell of their fury at the behaviour of Mr Hancock, who is
‘Martha is crushed, everyone is left shattered by all this’
reportedly trying to plot a political comeback. A source said the wider family had been appalled by the scandal, adding: ‘Martha has been crushed by this.
‘He has shown no concern for Martha or the children. He has been uncaring to Martha even though she backed him throughout his career and introduced him to the people that made his career.
‘Matt Hancock is a horrible individual. He is definitely not a gentleman. He keeps trying to suggest that all is fine when everyone has been left shattered by this. He has been horrible to Martha and has not even apologised to her or the rest of the family for what he has done.’
Last week, the Tory backbencher and Ms Coladangelo were photographed together for the first time since their affair was made public.
Mr Hancock and mother-of-three Ms Coladangelo – who has dumped her husband Oliver Tress for the former Minister – took a romantic trip to Villars-sur-Ollon, a resort in the Alps near Lake Geneva.
Mrs Hancock was reported to be unaware of her husband’s infidelity until CCTV footage showing him kissing Ms Coladangelo in his private office was published on the front page of a tabloid newspaper.
Mr Hancock told his wife that their 15-year marriage was over on the evening he learnt the newspaper was about to publish the compromising footage.
When the images were published, Mr Hancock, who at first refused to resign as a Minister, declined to apologise to his wife but did say sorry for breaking social-distancing rules. He was forced to quit as Health Secretary a day later.
In his resignation letter, he said he wanted to ‘apologise to my family and loved ones for putting them through this’.
The disgraced politician met Martha, who is an osteopath, at Oxford University.
