Policeman is seriously injured in M-way crash

-

A POLICEMAN is in a serious condition after he had to be cut free from the wreckage of his patrol car following a high-speed motorway chase.

The officer’s vehicle smashed into a bridge following a collision with a Seat Ibiza that had earlier failed to stop.

Four men in the Seat were arrested. Firemen freed two of them after the collision on the eastbound section of the M62 between junctions 34 and 35, near Selby, shortly before midnight on Friday. One suffered neck and back injuries while two others suffered minor injuries. It was reported that two police cars had been pursuing the Seat. The crash left other motorists stranded on the motorway for up to 12 hours.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said yesterday: ‘A police officer suffered serious leg injuries as a result and he was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but nonlife-threatening condition.’
