Calum McClurkin’s RACING DIARY
WHAT a way to start life as a professional for
Amie Waugh. Claiming 5lbs on her debut ride on Sound Of Iona at Haydock on Friday, the transition from amateur to professional Flat jockey was made to look a seamless transition when winning at 7-1. Sound Of Iona is a horse that needs to be held up to get the gaps in sprints. More often than not this season, it hasn’t gone to plan. Waugh (pictured) changes the record. She settled mid-division and tracked the right pacesetters, pulled the horse wide to move into the clear and timed the final push correctly to win narrowly. A perfect start!
