WEATHER WATCH

- John Kettley

OVER the decades we have regularly enjoyed the warm sunshine that September can bring. Back in 1926, a late heatwave brought soaring temperatures and a peak of 32.2C 89.96F to Camden in North London on September 19. Just 12 months ago, London recorded a more modest 25C 77F on that date but contrast that with the damaging Storm ‘Ali’ of three years ago when severe gales and driving rain swept the country.

This is indeed an enigmatic month and the coming week reflects that. The showery weather of the weekend will clear to a drier and sunnier start to the week but developing low pressure in the Atlantic will draw stronger winds and rain from Wednesday onwards. Markedly cooler and blustery winds will also have us checking our boilers.
