Make £17m selling my house? It’s a no from me!

Cowell snubs double your money £35m offer for Malibu mansion

SIMON COWELL has turned down a staggering £35million ‘double your money’ offer on the Malibu mansion he bought just four years ago.

The X Factor mogul, 61, who snapped up the stunning property in California for £17.5million in 2017, has rejected an ‘off-market’ cash offer for the ocean-front home he shares with partner Lauren Silverman, 43, and their son Eric, who is seven.

Cowell, reportedly worth £150 million, was contacted by a mystery buyer this summer. ‘Simon was approached and offered a chance to double his money,’ a source told The Mail on Sunday.

‘The house wasn’t even on the market and it still isn’t, but Malibu real estate is so hot right now that people are willing to pay way above market rates.

‘The house has since been shown off-market a couple of times, but Simon’s in no rush to move.

‘In fact, he’s having working done at the house. Of course, he would consider selling if the price was right, who wouldn’t? But, for the moment, he’s staying put.’

Cowell, also a Britain’s Got Talent judge, last year broke his back in three places after coming off a powerful new electric bike as he tried to ride it for the first time in the mansion’s courtyard.

He had a seven-hour operation to insert a metal rod into his spine.

Recalling the surgery last week, he said: ‘I had a great surgeon. It was a seven-hour operation, and if you saw the scan I was literally a millimetre away from snapping my spine. In the operation something could have gone wrong and I would have been in a wheelchair for the rest of my life.’

Cowell said his son nicknamed him ‘iron man’ when he first saw his father in hospital after the operation. The TV tycoon has spent much of the past year recuperating at his home but now says he feels healthier than ever.

‘It wasn’t great for three to four weeks but after that you get through it. I had to do so much exercise I now actually feel better than I did before the accident. I have a lot to be thankful for,’ he said.

A source said that Cowell – who also owns lavish properties in London and Barbados – loves the sevenbedroom Malibu home that he bought after selling a house in Beverly Hills. It sits on its own private 1.64 acre estate with Pacific views, a tennis court, gym and access down to a secluded beach.

‘He loves the outdoor lifestyle of being by the ocean, the fresh air and the sea breezes,’ said the source. ‘It’s a family home and he’s very happy there.’
