If you’re an aficionado of unadulterated idiocy, Greg Davies is firmly established as a comedy god. Currently starring in BBC1’s sublime The Cleaner, here he is back presiding over a new ten-part run of the sadistically inventive game show.

An outstanding line-up of comedy talent submits itself to Davies’s bizarre games and arbitrary judgments: familiar panelshow faces Alan Davies and Victoria Coren Mitchell (right), American star Desiree Burch, Morgana Robinson (The Morgana Show) and Man Like Mobeen’s Gus Khan.

After asking the contestants to suggest things that are comfortable to sit on – electric toothbrush, chicken cutlets and diamonds are among the answers they must justify – matters degenerate. With Davies joined by long-suffering sidekick Alex Horne, Taskmaster is still the most reliably laugh-out-loud show. ★★★★★
