No cheese please …it terrifies me!

ONE of the strangest phobias in the world has to be turophobia – an intense fear of cheese. In 2016, 20-yearold Katie Weston, a student from Cardiff University, wrote in online magazine, The Tab, that she was so terrified of the stuff, she’d ask other staff at the restaurant where she worked to handle the cheese boards.

London-based therapist Kate Hoyle says the phobia isn’t as rare as you might think, and often stems from a traumatic childhood experience involving cheese. But for some prone to nausea, it can be rooted in a particular dislike of the distinctive smell.
