INTERESTING
news from Denmark, where lawmakers are trying to cut down on ‘groupies’ of violent criminals. Politicians introduced a bill which will ban inmates serving life sentences from starting a romance. The bill will limit prisoners’ contacts to those already close to them for the first ten years of their sentence. It follows a case where a 17-year-old girl fell in love with a killer after talking to him through letters and calls. The murderer later married another woman while still in jail. The bill raises interesting questions of censorship, expression and prisoners’ rights and it will be fascinating to see whether it becomes law and whether any other country seeks to follow Denmark’s lead.
