WEATHER WATCH

- John Kettley

THE energy crisis of recent weeks has highlighted the need for improved renewable source technology. This year has been less windy than last and wind turbines have been working under capacity. Solar panels have also seen a downturn as cloudier skies have been noticeably more common.

This September, however, has helped renewables as we continue to enjoy one of the sunniest on record and the coming few days look windier than we have seen for most of this year. By Friday morning much of the country had enjoyed temperatures more than 2C above average with tiny amounts of rain along southern coasts. A band of heavier rain and stronger winds arriving in the west today though will set the scene for the next week as the weather turns more unsettled.
