Cool discovery in Dino world
MY toddler son is dinosaur daft. He has dinosaur teddies and plastic figurines. His favourite clothes are the ones with prehistoric beasts sewn in or painted on. CBeebies has been binned in favour of Netflix dino cartoons or T-Rex songs on YouTube. This obsession has permeated his mums’ life so that now me and Jen notice dino news wherever it occurs. So I paid unusual amounts of attention to a new type of Ankylosaur just discovered in Morocco. They are the squat, armoured tanks of the dino world, covered in spikes and with a big club on the end of their tail. It’s always been thought the spikes came out of the skin like fingernails.
But this discovery not only shows the earliest type of ankylosaur ever found, it also reveals the spikes fused directly to ribs and pushed through flesh to the outside. I’m no toddler, but even I think that’s pretty cool.
