Taron Egerton (above) performs Elton John’s songs himself in this biopic. He’s also superb as the singer-songwriter in a tale that takes John from his troubled childhood, through his rise to fame and efforts to tackle his personal issues. It’s followed by Elton John: The Red Piano (11.20pm), which was filmed during his Las Vegas residency. ★★★★★
