ANTONIO POUNCES LATE TO MAINTAIN HUGE WAVE OF WEST HAM MOMENTUM

-

MICHAIL ANTONIO struck in the 90th minute to keep up the feel-good factor for David Moyes’ West Ham sky high as they clinched a dramatic 2-1 win over Leeds at Elland Road.

Raphinha drilled home the opener in 19 minutes for Marcelo Bielsa’s strugglers, who are without a Premier League win this term.

Tomas Soucek had a leveller ruled out by VAR after Antonio clashed with the Leeds keeper mid-air but it was an early sign of intent in the second half from the Hammers.

Jarrod Bowen’s deflected shot hit Leeds’ Junior Firpo and deceived Illan Meslier as West Ham drew level on 67 minutes. Antonio clinched the winner on the counter attack when sent clean through on goal by Declan Rice.

‘We missed quite a few I felt today, two or three at the start before they went 1-0 up, missed one right on half-time and I thought the second half we were better,’ said Moyes, who saw his side move up to seventh in the table.

‘Thankfully, we got there. Great character from the players.’

Elsewhere, Everton climbed up to fifth after Rafa Benitez’s men beat bottom-club Norwich 2-0.

Andros Townsend’s penalty and Abdoulaye Doucoure did the damage either side of the break at Goodison Park.

Jamie Vardy scored twice for Leicester and netted an own goal in a 2-2 draw with Burnley.

Chris Wood also got on the scoresheet at the

King Power Stadium.

The spoils were also shared at Watford, where Sean Longstaff’s effort for Newcastle was cancelled out by Ismaila Sarr in a 1-1 draw.
