Outbreak affects more than a sixth of island’s residents
A COVID outbreak on the Outer Hebridean island of Barra has affected more than a sixth of the population.
NHS Western Isles chief executive Gordon Jamieson said on Friday that 37 of around 1,200 residents had the virus, with 200 self-isolating.
He added: ‘There is clear evidence of widespread community transmission.’
Thirteen other people in the Outer Hebrides are also being treated for Covid after an outbreak at Dun Eisdean care home in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis.
Non-essential visiting has been suspended.
