Veteran comics Steve Martin and Martin Short (below) and millennial singing superstar Selena Gomez are the charming crime-solving trio who have proved a completely unexpected hit.

The three play strangers who live in the same smart apartment block on the Upper West Side in New York. They are drawn together by their love of a true-crime podcast and when there’s a death in their building, they suspect murder and begin to record their own podcast. But their investigation brings secrets of their own to light.

The ten-episode show takes the mystery seriously while delivering laughs and sending up our obsession with true crime, podcasts and celebrity. Martin’s character is a fading actor known for the 1980s cop show Brazzos. Short is a Broadway director who can’t let go of the past. Gomez is terrific as a sardonic twentysomething, part exasperated and part amused by the antics of the two ridiculous men in their 70s she has befriended.

It’s the chemistry between the three that has made the show so popular. As a bonus, Sting appears as a hilarious version of himself and Tina Fey plays the presenter of the podcast that our heroes love.
