KEEPER IS RETURN WITH THREE POINTS TEST AND RETURN WITH THREE POINTS

- By Graeme Croser

MATT MACEY insists Hibs travel to Ibrox full of belief that they can defeat the reigning champions to go joint top of the Premiership table.

Yesterday’s 2-0 win over Motherwell saw Hearts overtake Rangers at the summit, and they will be joined by their Edinburgh rivals if they can pull off an away win in Glasgow this afternoon.

Undefeated in the league this season, Jack Ross’s side travel west in confident mood, as epitomised by former Arsenal goalkeeper Macey.

He said: ‘Our mentality is important, we have to believe we can go there and win. And there’s no reason why we can’t go there and win.

‘There’s a feeling around the club that we can do it. Watching

the game at Ibrox towards the end of last season, we could have won that one.

‘So we’ve proved we can match these teams, play well and get results regularly — not just as a one-off when they have a bad day.

‘There’s a feeling this week amongst us that we can go and do something.

‘Its a big test for us but we’re all looking forward to it.

‘We’ve put ourselves in a really good position this season and we deserve the opportunity to have a go at moving top of the league.’

With Rangers continuing to refuse to provide tickets to visiting supporters, Hibs will step into a hostile environment.

An unused substitute as the Easter Road side lost 2-1 at an empty Ibrox during a season played behind closed-doors, Macey has yet to experience the noise of a Govan crowd.

‘From what I’ve heard, their fans can make a massive impact for them,’ he says. ‘I’m aware that we won’t have our fans in there, which is a loss because they travel in great numbers when we play away.

‘That will make for a bigger challenge on top of what is already a tough game.

‘But anywhere you go as the away team, you try to make life difficult for the opposition and keep the game close going into the last 20.’

Hibs overcame last season’s double cup winners St Johnstone last weekend to maintain their unbeaten league start.

‘On reflection, the St Johnstone win was probably bigger than we realised,’ added Macey.

‘It was a cagey game, which you always get against them but I never felt like we would concede, which is a positive.

‘We got the penalty and when you look at other results, it was a big one for us.

‘With our history against them last season, it was a good one to get out of the way.’
