A nuclear power fund...with interest

-

We need to increase our nuclear power-generating capacity but that would cost a lot of money. At the same time, millions of people in this country have savings that, if they are lucky, may give them enough annual interest per person to buy a chocolate bar, which is both disgusting and laughable in equal measure.

Is it beyond the collective wit and wisdom of British politicians to find the funding for the former of those two issues by using the latter? It shouldn’t be seen as rocket science, more like common sense.

My savings are earning an absolute pittance. If the Government offered about two per cent interest on what I could personally invest to put into a fund to develop our nuclearpower capacity, I would withdraw my money from my current savings account within hours.

I would sleep soundly at night knowing that my savings were helping the country become self-sufficient, in terms of power, and earning me a lot more than I am currently getting in interest.

It’s the epitome of a win-win situation in my opinion, and I suspect millions of people around the nation would similarly want to offer their savings for such a sensible plan.
