Canter is on the charge
ENGLAND’S Laurie Canter tamed the devilish test that is Valderrama once again yesterday to hold a three-shot lead going into today’s final round.
The 31-year-old backed up his second-round 65 by posting a 67 and carding eight birdies in a roller-coaster day in the Andalucia Masters to finish on seven under.
Canter is three ahead of compatriot Matthew Fitzpatrick, who played for Team Europe in last month’s heavy defeat at Whistling Straits to the USA.
American David Lipsky is third on three under after carding a 64 in Spain but Scotland’s Scott Jamieson slipped to one over after a 74.
Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy bounced back to form last night in the CJ Cup at The Summit in Las Vegas after a sensational third-round 62. McIlroy took the clubhouse lead on 19 under, with Rickie Fowler, Ian Poulter and Adam Scott also in the mix.
