HOW CELTIC LINED UP AGAINST FERENCVAROS 12 MONTHS AGO...

-

VASILIS BARKAS – Purchased for £5million from

AEK Athens, the Greek international was suspect at Tokmac Nguen’s winner and spent the season floating in and out of the team. Still on the books but permanently dethroned by Joe Hart.

HATEM ABD ELHAMED – The Israeli full-back was transferred back to his homeland in January after expressing a wish to return to his family. CHRISTOPHER JULLIEN – Has been dogged by injury over the past year and hasn’t featured at all in 2021 after cracking his knee against a goalpost in December. Back in full training but still short of a return.

KRISTOFFER AJER – One of few to gain pass marks last season, the Norwegian international was sold to Brentford for £13.5m over the summer.

GREG TAYLOR – A regular for Ange Postecoglou at the start of the season but currently sidelined with a shoulder injury.

SCOTT BROWN – Celtic’s veteran captain visibly slowed down last season and made a decision to leave in the summer. Now skipper of a struggling Aberdeen team.

CALLUM McGREGOR – The sole survivor from last season’s meeting with Ferencvaros. Appointed club captain, the Scotland international is central to Postecoglou’s rebuild.

OLIVIER NTCHAM – Blessed with an abundance of skill and the ability to dictate games yet was a sporadic performer. Contract was mutually terminated in the close season and he signed for Swansea.

JAMES FORREST – Another huge miss for Celtic over the past 12 months. Normally a reliable source of goals and assists, the winger remains sidelined with injury.

RYAN CHRISTIE – Celtic’s scorer on the night,

Christie suffered from playing most of last season out of position. Started the season brightly under Postecoglou but had already set his heart on a move and transferred to Bournemouth on deadline day.

MOI ELYOUNOUSSI – Spent two seasons on loan from Southampton and was largely productive. High wages and the demand of a chunky transfer fee saw Celtic turn elsewhere over the summer.
