We’ll get even better, claims Postecoglou

- By Gary Keown

ANGE POSTECOGLOU saw his Celtic side cut the gap between themselves and Premiership leaders Rangers to just four points — then vowed they are only going to get better from here on in.

The Parkhead men won 2-0 at Fir

Park thanks to goals from Jota and David Turnbull, with their manager happy with the way they are settling into his system in the wake of a summer of upheaval in terms of personnel. ‘I thought it was a good performance. It’s not an easy place to come and try to control the game but we managed to do that,’ he said.

‘Motherwell have made a decent start to the season but we were in control. We held the ball comfortably, scored two good goals, made chances and Joe Hart didn’t have a significant save to make. ‘We are a lot more settled. All the players have been here now for at least one month. Whatever we do now, I know we’ll be better. We are beginning to see a foundation for what we are trying to build.’

Postecoglou rallied a rowdy travelling support with a lusty shake of the fists at the end, just like Pittodrie before the international break, and thanked fans for the blind faith they have shown as he bids to get the club back on track after blowing 10-in-a-row last term.

‘We are allowed to enjoy ourselves,’ he said. ‘The fans have been outstanding. I’m not a great gauge on what the general feeling is about me, but everyone has been very supportive.’ Asked for his reaction to Rangers dropping two points at home to

Hearts, Postecoglou added: ‘I thought the Premiership was over, mate, so I’m not looking at the table any more,’ he said. ‘We are just doing our own thing, so that result has zero significance. The main thing for us is to keep our heads down and run our own race.’
