W1A star Sarah Parish breaks spine in fall on Turkish holiday

- By Molly Clayton

W1A and Bancroft actress Sarah Parish has been rushed to hospital after fracturing her spine and breaking a rib in a fall on holiday in Turkey.

The 53-year-old slipped and fell on to a hard surface, she revealed yesterday. Posting a picture of herself in her hospital bed on the country’s western coast, she wrote: ‘A broken rib?? No, no, that’s not enough for this f*** wit. Let’s pop into the equation a nasty fall on a very hard surface resulting in a fractured spine. Yes, that’s better.’

The actress, who was staying at the upmarket Hillside Beach Club near the port city of Fethiye, said she will have to extend her stay in Turkey by a couple of days while she recovers in hospital. She added: ‘Life really does appear to be taking a massive dump on my head right now.’

The star had earlier posted a video of a massive celebration writing: ‘Republic Day in Turkey! Let’s party.’

Her close friends and showbusiness colleagues were quick to comfort her following her accident. Actress Catherine Tyldesley said: ‘Oh bloody hell love! Get well soon! Xxxx.’

It’s A Sin writer Russell T. Davies commented: ‘Ouch!! Get well.’ While Ridley Road actress Tracy-Ann Oberman said: ‘Oh Sarah – you poor thing. Get home ASAP. Hope you’re not in too much pain and if you need ANYTHING – let us know x.’

Parish is on holiday with husband James Murray and their daughter, Nell. It is not the first time the motherof-two has been in the headlines for a nasty accident. In 2018, she shattered her leg while snowboarding.

Parish is best known for playing Detective Superintendent Elizabeth Bancroft in ITV drama Bancroft and Anna Rampton, the Corporation’s Director of Better and former Head of Output, in BBC comedy W1A.
