LATEST MISFIRE SEES THE HOME FANS BEGIN TO TURN ON KANE

- By James Sharpe

TOTTENHAM’S woes plunged new depths last night as furious fans turned on Harry Kane in their horror 3-0 defeat to Manchester United that ramped up the pressure on Nuno Espirito Santo.

The England captain was booed by his own fans for the first time and branded a ‘shadow of his former self’ by Sky pundit Graeme Souness as Kane mustered just a single shot in a dismal performance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Roy Keane slammed Spurs as ‘boring’ and ‘abysmal’ as the club’s season hit a new low with Kane and Heung-min Son both firing blanks as they failed to score against a United side that lost 5-0 to Liverpool last time out.

It was left United’s evergreen pair of Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani, at a combined age of 70, to put the visitors two up before Marcus Rashford finished off the rout, relieving the pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and piling more on to Nuno.

‘Kane and (Lucas) Moura look a shadow of the players they have been in the past,’ said Souness.

‘Spurs had 58 per cent of the ball and did nothing with it. Not a shot on target. They [the fans] will go home a frustrating group wondering where this team will go this year. It seems pretty obvious. Mid-table at best.’

The result leaves Nuno’s side eighth, 10 points off leaders Chelsea with huge boos ringing around the stadium at full-time.

Tottenham have mustered just nine goals all season, with only basement boys Norwich and Leeds scoring fewer.

Meanwhile, Solksjaer took a swipe at his critics after his side’s triumph, saying: ‘It is hard to be sitting as your local journalist then to write about your own fans singing for your manager,’ he said spikily. ‘That is just a dig at someone who has been wanting to portray a different story.’
