It’s lunacy to be apologising for Christmas
Last week The Mail on Sunday reported that civil servants are to block the word ‘Christmas’ for fear of offending minority religions. This is getting out of hand to the point of lunacy.
Britain is a Christian country and the idea that we should be apologising for our principal religious festivals is ridiculous.
Who are all these people allegedly offended by our celebration of Christmas and Easter, anyway? I’ve certainly never come across any.
Charles Jackson, Newcastle upon Tyne
Just who do the civil servants think they are, blocking the word ‘Christmas’ as part of efforts to avoid a winter Covid crisis?
When will they realise that, firstly, they are employed to do what the Government tells them, not the other way round; and secondly, that their woke attitude is not shared by the majority of the British people?
Nora Kent, Windsor
The Government ought to sack these idiots. It should also stop issuing knighthoods to civil servants, as they are undeserved. They are only doing their jobs, and very badly in some cases.
John Bowyer, Lincoln
I hate wokeness but have to say that in this case the civil servants were not trying to ‘ban Christmas’.
They were looking for the best way to get through to the minorities who are seeing the highest rate of Covid infection and lowest rate of vaccination.
These are also the ones who don’t celebrate Christmas. I can see the logic.
Peter Dawkins, Hertfordshire
Never mind banning the word ‘Christmas’ – why not just do away with Christmas altogether? It has become a purely commercial event.
D. Owen, Cheltenham
Are you telling me the Civil Service does not have Christmas parties? Why has London spent millions illuminating the city if it’s not for Christmas?
Christmas is celebrated by more than half of the world, so let’s keep it.
Barry Davies, Chorley, Lancashire It seems that it is OK for the woke civil servants to upset Christians and Jews, but not the other religions.
I am glad that a Muslim MP stood up for the majority religion in this country. I used to be married to a Buddhist and she accepted Christmas as part of our way of life.
Mike Howell, Folkestone, Kent
I live fairly close to two multicultural cities, Wolverhampton and Birmingham, and the religious festivals and special events associated with various religions are mentioned and, indeed, celebrated all the time.
Once again, it’s the white liberal Left looking for something to be offended by on someone else’s behalf.
