Obi-Wed Kenobi?
Star Wars Ewan in rings riddle
HOLLYWOOD actor Ewan McGregor is no stranger to plot secrets as one of the biggest names in the Star Wars movie franchise.
But it is no longer his latest return as Obi-Wan Kenobi in a new TV series that is keeping many of his fans guessing – it’s whether or not recent photographs of him and his partner, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, apparently wearing new gold wedding bands, have the ring of truth.
The couple, who have been together since meeting on the set of crime drama Fargo, recently became parents to son Laurie.
But following the baby’s June arrival, McGregor, 50, and Winstead, 37, have appeared in a number of photographs sporting what appear to be wedding rings.
Both regulars at Hollywood fundraiser GO Gala, which raises cash to help at-risk children, the pair were seen in October happily dueting on their guitar and ukulele online from their home, with the bands clearly visible to viewers.
In a social media post during the filming of a road-trip movie with his eldest child, Clara, 25, McGregor was again pictured with the latest addition to his ring finger as he posed with her and TV director Sasha Alexander.
One eagle-eyed Instagram fan observed: ‘Wedding ring?’
McGregor, from Crieff, Perthshire, split from his wife of 22 years, Eve Mavrakis, in 2017, and the divorce was finalised in August last year. The couple also have daughters Jamyan and Esther, both 20, and Anouk, ten.
Winstead was also previously in a long-term relationship with her former husband, Riley Stearns, whom she married in 2010.
McGregor and Winstead remained tight-lipped about their romance and the pregnancy, leaving it to Clara and Esther to announce the surprise arrival of their baby brother on Instagram. Clara shared two photographs of her cradling the newborn, with the caption: ‘Welcome to the world little brother. Congratulations to my Dad & Mary – this is the greatest gift.’
Meanwhile, Esther posted: ‘Met my little brother looking like a pirate. I recommend! Welcome to the family little Laurie!’
Next year McGregor will return to screens in Star Wars spin-off series Obi-Wan Kenobi, some of which was shot in Scotland.
