Feathers ruffled as JP orders noisy parrots to be kept indoors
TWO noisy parrots have been ordered indoors after a court ruled their squawking had shattered the peace.
Retired farmer Iain Gauld has been told Amazon macaws Charlie and Bella can no longer be kept in a cage in his garden and must be moved inside his home.
Justice of the Peace Geoffrey Daniel granted an Annoying Creatures application after Mr Gauld’s neighbour John Watson took legal action over claims the birds had disturbed neighbours in Blairgowrie, Perthshire.
At Perth JP court, Mr Daniel said: ‘I have been asked to decide whether they are too noisy to stay outside and I find that they are. I am making an order to keep the parrots permanently inside.’
Mr Gauld was warned that he could face police action if he failed to follow the ruling.
Mr Watson’s solicitor, Jamie Baxter, said: ‘They are the third loudest type of macaw, at just over 100 decibels, equivalent to a jackhammer.’
Mr Gauld said: ‘It is outbursts and related to daylight hours. I’m not saying they’re not making a noise but I feel this is one-sided.’
