The second Downton Abbey movie is out in March but now, from the ITV show's creator, Julian Fellowes, comes a new saga of period high society, set in New York.

The year is 1882, and the city that will one day be called the Big Apple is a surprisingly green expanse, peppered with lavish mansions in its smarter parts.

Among a galaxy of characters, the most sympathetic is Marian (Louisa Jacobson), a young woman who is shocked to discover she has been left penniless after her father dies.

Happily, her aunts Ada (Sex And The City's Cynthia Nixon) and Agnes (Christine Baranski, right) take her into their home, where they live across the street from a wealthy arriviste couple, George and Bertha.

Sit back, enjoy and savour the delicious one-liners that we'll be repeating for weeks to come. ★★★★★
