Kilmarnock boss McInnes eyes up loan move for Celtic youngster Montgomery

- GRAEME CROSER

KILMARNOCK have launched a bid to sign Celtic’s Adam Montgomery on loan for the rest of the season. The Parkhead left-back (right) has made 18 appearances under Ange Postecoglou this term, but with Greg Taylor fit again and his squad top-heavy with new signings, the manager is keen to farm out the teenager until May. Despite interest from south of the border, Championship side Killie have emerged as a favourable option for both Montgomery and Celtic.

The chance to take part in a promotion-chasing campaign under Derek McInnes presents a competitive challenge for the 19-year-old. Celtic are also mindful of the success of Ryan Christie’s loan spell under McInnes at Aberdeen, while Kristoffer Ajer also developed during a loan at Kilmarnock. The former Dons boss has been busy since taking over at Rugby Park earlier this month, adding Ash Taylor, Kyle Lafferty, Dylan Tait and Daniel Mackay to his squad.
