Davidson missed his chance to leave Perth on a high

-

YOU know things have gone seriously south when St Johnstone’s mild-mannered fans are screaming for blood. Even last month, with the team bottom of the Premiership, their ultras group was still staying behind after a home loss to Aberdeen for a sing-song and photos with the Scottish and League Cups.

No longer. A losing streak of ten games is bad enough. When the most recent of those is a Scottish Cup loss to Kelty Hearts, all bets are off.

Let’s be honest. Saints boss Callum Davidson has made one rollicking hash of this. After snaring those trophies, he should have cashed in and found a job in England.

Instead, his big window of opportunity has almost closed and he is being dragged under by a dull club going nowhere. Recruitment has been poor and expecting Nadir Ciftci to solve their inability to score looks a stretch.

Lose to Dundee on Wednesday and Davidson might have little option but to bail out. When your punters can’t be won back round, your past record and your contract status are unlikely to be enough to save you.
