Tindall got 50ft pool permission as his f irm claimed furlough cash

- By Sam Merriman and Andrew Buckwell

MIKE Tindall was granted permission to build a 50ft swimming pool at the country mansion he shares with the Queen’s granddaughter Zara while his company claimed money from the taxpayer-funded furlough scheme.

The former rugby star was given approval for the pool at the couple’s home on Princess Anne’s Gatcombe Park Estate in Gloucestershire while Kimble Trading, the firm that manages his speaking events, was receiving the fourth of six monthly job-retention payments.

A spokesman for Mr Tindall last night said construction on the pool has not begun, after plans were shelved due to the pandemic.

Mr Tindall, who has an estimated fortune of £15million, faced criticism last year when Kimble Trading’s accounts showed it had used the furlough scheme, which granted

80 per cent of employees’ wages, to pay an employee. The recipient was not the former England rugby union ace.

Plans for the 800sq ft pool were approved around the time his wife gave birth to the couple’s third child, Lucas, having been submitted in October 2020. Mr Tindall also planned a pool house, complete with changing room and kitchen, but scaled back the plans after concern about its location in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Last night, a spokesman said: ‘By the time permission was granted in 2021, due to the impact of Covid, Mike shelved all plans regarding the reinstatement of the pool and has not revisited them since.’
