Thrill of a no-frills wedding

-

My wife and I can relate to the article about the secret to a long marriage being to have a cheap wedding. Our wedding car was a taxi from the village, the reception was at the local Working Men’s Club and members of our family prepared the finger buffet. Our marriage is still going strong after more than 65 years.

My husband and I planned our wedding on £1,000. Our village pub let us bring sparkling wine and a neighbour made coronation chicken for 50 close family and a few friends. I care for my now-disabled husband, which can be a struggle, but the strength of our trust and love has got us through, not an expensive wedding.
